Wax edition

Why should I wax instead of shave?

Shaving can leave you with bumps, breakouts, and ingrown hairs. This hair removal method only lasts a few days and is time consuming. Shaving removes hair from the surface of the skin and leaves the root intact. It's also possible to cut yourself while using your razor. Waxing removes the hair follicle at the root, so the results last significantly longer. When consistent, waxing will cause the hair to grow back finer, thinner, and softer and is recommended every 3-4 weeks. Waxing exfoliates the skin and will leave you silky and smooth opposed to shaving which can leave you stubbly and prickly.

How long will my wax last?

It depends on how coarse your hair is, where you're at in your hair growth cycle, and how long you've been waxing. Results vary but typically you won't see hair growth until 5-7 days post wax. You'll notice slower hair growth for up to 4 weeks.

Can I get waxed on my period?

Yes! It's okay to be serviced while menstruating as long as you are wearing a tampon.

How long will my skin be red for after waxing?

Redness can last up to 24 hours post wax. Any irrigation or skin sensitivity should be gone within a day.

Do I need to trim my hair before waxing?

No! You do not need to trim before waxing. Often times people cut their hair down too short when trimming. When the hair isn't 1/4 of an inch it is not long enough for the wax to remove it.

How long does my hair need to be to get waxed?

Hair needs to be 1/4 of an inch to be picked up by the hard wax. Anything shorter will still be left over unless picked up with tweezers or can be removed during your next wax appointment.

Can I get waxed if I use Retin-A, Accutane, or any other chemical exfoliants?

Absolutely not. These chemicals are contraindications of waxing. Avoid using Retin-A and other chemical exfoliants such as Salicylic and Glycolic acid for 5-7 days prior to a wax. client must be off accutane for six full months before waxing.

Will my hair grow back thinner after waxing?

YES! The individual hair follicle will grow back thinner and there will be less hair on the surface of the skin with regular waxes and proper home care.

Does waxing hurt?

Waxing can hurt! It may be painful the first few appointments, but it gets a lot better with time. Making regular appointments and not shaving in between your wax should make the service a lot more tolerable. Take a Tylenol 1 hour before your appointment if you have a low pain tolerance.

Treatments

Can I get a chemical peel in the summer?

No. I do not perform chemical peels May-September. In Arizona it’s almost impossible to stay out of the sun. Sun exposure post chemical peel can cause hyperpigmentation, sensitivities, chemical burns, and more. My Acne Bootcamp clients are the only ones I perform superficial peels on.

What treatments are being for age management?

Microneedling (collagen induction therapy), chemical peels, monthly facials, sunscreen, and proper home care will help you age gracefully. I recommend coming in monthly to do preventative treatments and having a great routine at home.

Can I get a facial if I’m pregnant?

If you’re pregnant, please let me know and I promise to only use pregnancy safe products on your skin that will not hurt you or the baby. Lactic peels are also pregnancy safe and can be performed with doctor’s consent.

What is the best service for clients with acne?

Acne Bootcamp by Face Reality is the best treatment for those who struggle with non-inflamed and inflamed acne. Acne Bootcamp can clear clients in as little as 3-6 months and has a 90% success rate for committed/dedicated individuals. No antibiotics or harsh topicals needed! When you’ve tried everything and nothing works, Face Reality will.

Can I get dermaplaned if I have acne?

If you have acne, you cannot get dermaplaned. When there’s bumps on your skin, it’s more likely for the blade to skip, creating small cuts on the skin. If you only have a few breakouts, I can go around them. But if you have moderate to severe acne, I do not suggest dermaplaning.
